I’m thinking of doing some tarot tonight, as the gods have been fairly silent and I’d like to get back in touch with them, as well as I have some questions for Apollo and Dionysus. This will be my first time doing it myself, and my first time doing it with this deck as well.

Does anyone have advice or tips or anything of the sort? Even just with the gods themselves, though I’d prefer tips on tarot reading.

If it helps, I have the oversized Hermetic Tarot deck illustrated by Godfre Dowson.

If you haven’t introduced the deck to the deity, do so prior to use. If you have an altar to the deity, leave the deck on it for a bit prior to use. Be very clear and concise with what you hope to gain from this exercise. Both deities that you mention, I think, are very prideful so be very clear with what you hope to achieve.

The picture isn’t terrific but it is a noticeable stain in sunlight. I have tried to clean this stain repeatedly, but all of my holistic cleaners have not done a very good job except to make it less noticeable in less-than-stellar light.

So you're kind of my go-to when it concerns Kemetic things (other than Satdeshret - hi!). And this is embarrassing so I'm on anon. I astral travel somewhat frequently and have been working with a specific Netjer. He gave me my name which is basically "child of __", but when I went to divine if I actually was His child (also alternate phrasing of if I was He is my parent), my tarot read "no" three different times. I became disheartened and thought about it all day. I decided to try (pt 1)

(cont…) a different question. I asked, “Will I be considered your child after my introduction class (to HoN)?” And it said “yes” (specifically 8 of Pentacles). I just wanted to hear your thoughts (perhaps for validation or confirmation). Do you think I am right in thinking that He means He will count me as His child after I put in the work to know how to properly worship Him, etc?

When it comes to HoN, I honestly can’t comment on that stuff. I know nothing about the process or how the gods interact with the Rev when she does her divination on the subject. So, while it’s feasible and probable that the deity in question will come in and say, “This is my child,” and the divination will reflect this, I cannot say for sure.

Now, let’s talk about this deity.

On the one hand, it is entirely possible that you are being trolled by a deity on the astral. I’m going to be up front about that. It’s not that I don’t believe the god, but that I’ve been trolled by gods (a lot) and I know that they will say one thing in order to get your attention. I’m not saying that all gods are like this, but it’s entirely possible.

Another realm of possibility is that you could be interacting with one of the deity’s netjeri, or demon messengers that do the deity’s bidding. Many of my friends will joke about how they are a god’s godphone answering service. And while they can take messages, and may even pass them on to the god in question, they may also get bored and decide to troll you in the name/face of the god in question.

These are things you should take into consideration with this particular situation. The next time you astral, be completely up front with the deity and ask, “Are you saying this to get my attention? Are you really X deity or are you a netjeri screwing with me?” It’s possible they may lie to you, but they may be thrown off by your direct question and give an honest answer.

As far as your divination attempts to verify this, I honestly wouldn’t worry about it. I tend to see divination as our ability to tap into the various different webs of “what will be,” which means that with actions, thoughts, and ideas we can absolutely and positively change the outcome.It is possible that you were getting “no” responses because your Tarot cards were picking up on your worry that you wouldn’t get the deity as your parent for the RPD and it’s also possible that at that moment in time, you weren’t going to receive them as a parent in the RPD. However, after thinking about it and realizing you wanted it, something changed. Either it was what your Tarot was picking up on from you or it was the thoughts (and feeling disheartened) that made it change.

In any case, I really hope that you get the deity in question because, honestly, that would be the best UPG ever.

I've searched through a lot of sites and have found the names of a lot of Kemetic festivals/observances/etc, but I have absolutely no idea how they coincide with today's calendar system. How do I know what days to celebrate which holidays?

This actually is a pretty difficult question, but not quite for the reason you think.

The thing is that when it comes to the Kemetic calendar we have to start delving into astronomy. I know; I know. I wasn’t overwhelmingly thrilled when I realized how much stuff I would have to put into this to get a functional calendar. While I took astronomy in school, I did not do well at it and while I like looking at stars sometimes, the thought of having to do more than just stare at the sky was nearly enough to make me say, “screw this.” I kept at it, though. Pretty much, you can expect this to happen a lot:

This entry is what I used to help build my calendar. Before you click on that, I’ll give you the basic run down of what you need to do. But seriously, that entry really is where I pulled most of my information from and what I needed to do in order to create the calendar I have in place now.

The ancient Egyptian New Year began at the heliacal rising of Sirius/Sopdet. This means that the star, Sirius, rises before the sun for the first day of the year and ta-da, we have New Year. This also conflates with the annual rising of the Nile, which is probably why they chose this particular time period. The thing is that while the calendar had 365 days in it, they didn’t take into account the need for a leap year to keep the calendar in check, so it actually goes out of synch and it takes 1,460 years to get it back so that the summer was really in the summer, etc. We don’t want this in our calendars because that would be silly.

So, the next step is to figure out where you want to base the heliacal rising of Sirius on. Do you want the rising to be over your city? Do you want to base it off of a city in ancient Egypt? That’s up to you. Once you decide that, then you go to this website. You will need to find out the longitude and latitude of where you want to base this calendrical system off of.

It’s about this point that I cried a lot and wanted to rip out my hair because you have to compare the rising of Sirius with the sun and find out which one is first. I actually did this wrong and am off by, like, four days but I don’t care. I created the calendar from the date I thought it was (July 30th) and have kept it up because I didn’t want to have to go back through and fix shit.

From there, it was actually pretty easy to create a calendar for my area and adding holidays that I think are appropriate to it. The hardest part is figuring out the heliacal rising of Sirius and where in the world you want that rising to take place.

You could also attempt to add festivities to the Julian calendar we use now. So, instead of having New Year on the 1st of January, you would have Wep-Ronpet, with the five days preceding that holiday being the five intercalary days of the ancient Egyptian calendar. (The birth days of Nut’s children: Aset, Wesir, Sutekh, Heru-wer, and Nebethet.)

Hi anon!

The story for how I was actually introduced into Kemeticism goes like this: while Wiki-clicking through pagan information pages, I stumbled (quite by accident) onto their Kemeticism page. And the world of Satsekhem was born. The full story for how I got into paganism can be found in this Kemetic Round Table post. (And if you click the link at the top, you can learn how a few other Kemetics and Kemetic pagans got into this world!)

I have very good relationships with most of the gods that I have active relationships with. I have varying types of relationships with different gods, however. The relationships with Ptah, Sutekh, Bes, and Geb is on an “as needed” (by them or by me) basis. The relationship I have with Anup is still very new and we’re feeling one another out so it’s not “great” but it’s workable. The other deities that I have in my life - Sekhmet, Aset, Hetheru, and Djehuti - are actually pretty damn spectacular. The only relationship that I need to work more fully on is the one with Mut and that’s mostly because she’s the quietest of the bunch. And since I do have so many, frankly, I can forget she’s around. XD

When it comes down to figuring out relationships with deities, you can do any number of things. You can say, “hey all Kemetic deities, I am ready for a relationship,” and see what happens and build on it from there. The thing is that I didn’t actually choose most of the deities I have relationships with. The only one that I actively chose were Ptah and Bes for specific reasons - Bes because my son was having nightmares and that’s kind of his thing; Ptah because my car is a hunk of junk but I’m one of the working poor so I need his craftsman experience to keep it going. (And plus, he’s kind of in a relationship with Sekhmet, so, it seems weird to not acknowledge him on occasion.)

I suggest looking through Henadology’s netjer list and see if anyone there really calls to you. The list is extensive, each article has sourcing, and it should give you a general idea regarding the deity/ies you may have an interest in. From there, research the hell out of the deity/ies you like. The Complete Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt by Richard H Wilkinson is a good book, as well as Egyptian Mythology by Geraldine Pinch.

After you do the research thing, take a look at this guide for some pointers on how to get started with the deity/ies in question.

The Aset symbol would be better if it was a Tyet knot and the Hetheru symbol would be better as a menat necklace. I’m not sure what the symbols in that post [for the two of them] are supposed to represent. So, as indicated, I would not trust these.
